Hargrove Now First in Heart
Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s wrestling team continues to have a large crew of individuals in the hunt for postseason glory as the NAIA released its fifth poll Thursday.
WPU is unofficially 43rd in the country with 11 points, headlined by three student-athletes ranked nationally.
Makail Stanley (Fr., Oreana, Ill., Biology) is now the top man, sitting 16th at 174 pounds. Cameron Hargrove (Fr., Bolingbrook, Ill., Undecided) is right behind his teammate, holding down the #17 spot at 149 pounds, while Matheson Meade (Fr., Knoxville, Tenn., Exercise Science) is 19th at 165.
Grand View remains #1 with 217 points, while Life (Ga.) is solidly in second with 167 points. Southeastern (Fla.) (123), Reinhardt (Ga.) (110), and Indiana Tech (103) round out the top five.
Seven individuals represent the navy and gold at the league level with Hargrove now topping the 149-pound weight class in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. He is the first Statesmen to lead his respective grouping this season.
Meade is second, while Stanley is fourth. Steven Skewes (Fr., Duchesne, Utah, Exercise Science) continues to be third at 157 pounds, while Branson Bottorff (So., Mackinaw, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) joins Stanley at #4, doing so at 197 pounds.
Michael Baker (So., Underwood, Iowa, Elementary Education) is fifth at 165 pounds, and Jesse Schwery (Fr., Panama, Iowa) is sixth at 184.
As a team, William Penn is fourth in the Heart with 102 points, while Grand View leads the way with 230 points.
