Griffen, Williams Claim First Career Heart Laurels

Oskaloosa–Keaten Griffen (Fr., Longview, Texas, Software Engineering) and Raven Williams (Grad., Las Vegas, Nev., Master’s of Organizational Leadership) claimed recognition for big performances as the Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its weekly track and field awards Monday.

Griffen was named the Heart’s Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, while Williams garnered the Heart’s Indoor Women’s Track Athlete of the Week accolade. The award is the first for both athletes.

Griffen broke his own school record in the pole vault at the Grinnell Darren Young Classic last Saturday. He topped the field with a height of 14-4.5, bettering his previous mark of 13-11.25.

The freshman is currently third in the league with his school-record height.

Williams won the 400-meter dash at Grinnell with a time of 1:00.74. She currently ranks sixth in the Heart with a previous time of 59.67 seconds.

The awards are the first for William Penn this year.
