Green Qualifies in Two Events at Season-Opening ISU Event
Ames–The William Penn track and field teams are competing with nearly completely new lineups, but success was still abundant as they opened their indoor seasons at the Iowa State Holiday Preview Friday.
Gabriel Green (Jr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) had a great start to his junior campaign, posting two national-qualifying times in the sprints. He finished fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.93 seconds and also fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.61 seconds. Both times eclipse the NAIA’s ‘B’ qualifying standard.
Chase Blakemore (Fr., Houston, Texas, Kansas CC) was strong in the 60 as well, placing ninth with a time of 6.99 seconds, just .04 off the ‘B’ mark.
Blake Washington (So., Knoxville, Knoxville HS) had a successful showing in the 800-meter run, taking fifth with a time of 2:03.56, while Josh Roudabush (Sr., Brooklyn, BGM HS) was seventh with a time of 1:15.61, only a second and a half off the ‘B’ standard.
Jalen Wilson (Fr., Desoto, Texas, Duncanville HS) made an impact in the jumps as well, claiming the bronze in the long jump with a length of 22-11.75, only one-quarter inch shy of qualifying.
Fatoumata Samura (Fr., Bronx, N.Y., Dewitt Clinton HS) topped the women as she was seventh in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:31.37.
Sade Myers (So., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS) also posted a top-ten finish, placing tenth in the same event with a time of 1:35.34.
Audre Harris (So., Johnson City, Kan., Allen CC) was 13th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.51 seconds, while Alexis Swinney (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney HS) was 15th in the 300-meter dash with a time of 42.88 seconds.
