Gonzalez Places Second at Grand View Invite

Pleasant Hill–Guadalupe Gonzalez (Sr., Houston, Texas, Exercise Science) headlined the William Penn cross country teams as they competed at the Grand View Invitational Friday.
Gonzalez placed second out of 41 female runners–and was the first collegiate harrier–with a 5K time of 21:00.7. Grand View alum Sarah Hendrickson won the race at 20:46.
Michelle Reyes (Fr., Brownsville, Texas, Biology) was next for WPU, placing 18th at 25:26.1. Bree’Anna Lee (So., Broken Arrow, Okla., Biology), in 36th (27:55.7), and Lauren Lehman (Jr., Norwalk, Iowa, Undecided), in 40th (33:34.7), also ran for the Statesmen.
Terry Jackson (So., Houston, Alaska, Biology) topped the men, finishing fourth out of 20 competitors with a time of 30:40.9 on the 8K course. His effort helped the navy and gold place second with 34 points, while host Grand View won what turned into a dual with 22 points.
Nathan Hopp (unattached) claimed the race crown in 27:30.7.
Joseph Diaz (Fr., Laredo, Texas, Wellness and Recreation) (8th, 31:36.4) and Cameron Shade (So., Riverdale, Ga., Sociology) (10th, 32:03.9) joined Jackson by being in the top 10 as well. Julian Davis (Fr., Palmer, Alaska, Mechanical Engineering) was 15th in a time of 34:30.7, while Percy Burton (Fr., Baltimore, Md., Sports Management) was 19th in 38:22.5.
Next Up: William Penn travels to Rock Island, Ill. next Friday to compete in the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana.
