Four-Spot Drop in Poll for Statesmen

Oskaloosa–On the heels of the team’s first loss of the year, the Penn football team is still considered one of the nation’s best as the NAIA’s seventh national poll was released today.
The Statesmen (7-1, 4-1 MWL) fell from #11 to #15 with 189 points. Penn, courtesy of four turnovers, fell to then-#16 McKendree (Ill.) 24-14 last Saturday.
For the 23rd week in a row, Sioux Falls (S.D.) (8-0) heads the ranking with 416 points and 15 of the 18 first-place votes. The rest of the top five remains the same with Carroll (Mont.), Saint Xavier (Ill.), MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), and Lindenwood (Mo.) holding their spots from last week. Carroll, with two, and Saint Xavier, with one, are also earning first-place votes.
McKendree is now the head of the Midwest League class at #13, while St. Francis (Ill.), who is 3-1 in the league, is unofficially 29th with eight votes. The Statesmen dropped to being the third-highest team from the state of Iowa behind #8 Morningside and #14 Northwestern.
Penn hosts Peru State (Neb.) Saturday in non-conference play at 1 p.m.
