Flooding Once Again An Issue In Mahaska County

Flood Waters are once again rushing over Highway 92, West of Oskaloosa, from the Muchakinock Creek

Heavy Rains over night have made some local streams and creeks over flow their banks once again.

It rained nearly five inches in most locations overnight, causing the Muchakinock Creek to once again overflow it’s banks and pour over Highway 92 West of Oskaloosa. 5.46 inches of rain was reported at the Knoxville Airport, with 4.77 inches reported at the Pella Airport over night.

The Iowa DOT has once again had to divert traffic around the flooded area.

Also, Iowa DOT is paying attention to the water levels and may be forced to once again close down all 4 lanes of Highway 63 between Eddyville and Oskaloosa.

The Flood Warning for Mahaska County will remain in effect until 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

In a recent update, Mahaska County Emergency Management is asking that residents stay aware of rising waters and remember the dangers associated with flooding and flash flooding. More rain is in the forecast for tonight in the area.
