Fishing, Swimming And Camping Mark The End Of Summer For Area Residents

One last big weekend for the summer season at Lake Keomah State Park.

One last big weekend for the summer season at Lake Keomah State Park.

Lake Keomah, Iowa – The sun was shimmering on the waves as a stiff breeze blew across the water.

Out on the lake, fishermen were found in their boats and along the shore, casting their lines into the end of summer.

The Labor Day Weekend often marks the end of summer. The calendar says the season ends on Thursday, September 22nd. The weekend represents that last opportunity for many to camp and fish for the year.

Collin Connermi was out fishing at Keomah in the sun and breeze on Monday. “Being the last holiday of summer, I can’t say there’s too much good to come from it.”

Connermi was out to make the most of the day and cap the summer season off on a good point. “Be thankful that we have a chance to have the day off.”

Besides taking advantage of the opportunity to fish, Connermi planned to get some stuff done around the house. “Sadly. I wish I could avoid that part.”

Over at the recently re-opened beach and paddle boat area, many visitors took advantage of the warm day to cool off in the water.

A non-profit volunteer organization; Friends of Keomah has worked to clean up the concession area and beach, and the effort has begun to pay off.

On Monday, about a dozen individuals could be found enjoying the groomed beach area or taking a trip around the lake in a paddle boat.

Keomah has once again turned into a destination, with the efforts of the State DNR and volunteers, and the traffic and smiles prove that those efforts are paying off.

The final event of the year for the Friends of Keomah will be a public potluck picnic on September 18th, with the public potluck beginning at 2pm.
