Figy Claims Defender of the Week Honor

Oskaloosa–Charlie Figy (So., Appleton, Wis., Sports Management) helped William Penn to a strong start to the season and for his efforts he was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Volleyball Defender of the Week Monday.

Figy won the second award of his career as the Statesmen went 2-1, including upsetting #10 Saint Xavier in five sets last Saturday.

In that victory, the sophomore was a part of five blocks (one solo, four assists). One evening earlier, Figy notched six additional blocks (two solos, four assists) versus NCAA Division II Quincy. His week began with Wednesday’s season opener against Clarke where he assisted on two blocks.

For the week (and year), Figy was a part of 13 blocks (three solos, 10 assists, 1.18 per set). He has also produced 18 kills on a .394 attack clip.

The award is the first of the year for WPU.
