Marie Hibler, 96, of Oskaloosa died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab Center in Oskaloosa.
Marie was born Saturday, March 24, 1917 in Keokuk County, the daughter of Fred Ervin and Janet Elizabeth Martin Rice. She graduated from the Fremont High School with the class of 1935. On December 29, 1940, Marie was united in marriage to Lawrence L. Hibler at Lancaster, Missouri and he died May 8, 1995.
Marie was a member of the C.C.C. Club. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, making quilts, Bingo and Skip-Bo. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. Marie will always be remembered for her selflessness.
She is survived by her three daughters: Linda (& Alvin) LeMar of Amodo, Arizona, Julia (& Stephen) Fortney of St. Charles, Missouri, Connie (& Stanley) Thomas of Newton, Iowa; a son: David (& Valarie) Hibler of Ottumwa; 8 grandchildren: Christopher LeMar, Brian LeMar, Corey Fortney, Sabrina Gabbard, Greg Thomas, Jerry Thomas, Jason Hibler, and Jordan Hibler; and 10 great grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers and their wives: Martin (& Florence) Rice, Neal (& Edith) Rice, Harold (& Martha) Rice; two sisters and their husbands: Margaret (& Don) Phillips and Evelyn (& Melvin) Flemming.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 1, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Abel Cemetery east of Fremont.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 1:00 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Wednesday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
