Eleven Statesmen Ranked in Final Poll Before Conference

Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s wrestling team will send a load of ranked wrestlers into action at the league championship as the NAIA released its sixth and final set of polls Wednesday.

WPU is rated 28th as a team with 15 points, while 170-pounder Kylee Eastwood (Fr., Fontana, Kan., Undecided) tops a trio of grapplers ranked in the top 20 in their respective weight classes.

116-pounder Brittany Cotter (So., Katy, Texas, Nursing) is next in 19th, while 136-pounder Ashleigh Denny (So., El Paso, Texas, Undecided) is 20th.

Life (Ga.) leads the NAIA with 196 points, while Grand View (187), Southern Oregon (180), Menlo (Calif.) (157), and Cumberlands (Ky.) (139) wrap up the top five.

The Statesmen have moved up a spot in the Heart of America Athletic Conference as they are now sixth with 92 points. Grand View heads the league with 207 points.

Denny and Eastwood are both rated fourth to pace WPU, while Cotter is sixth.

Mami Selemani (Jr., Iowa City, Iowa, Business Management) is at #5 at 123 pounds, while fellow 123-pounder Tatiana Garcia (Fr., Amarillo, Texas, Psychology) is seventh.

Catherine Steinkamp (So., Quincy, Ill., Biology) joins Brittany Cotter in the 116-pound standings as she is seventh. Rachel Cotter (Fr., Katy, Texas) is seventh at 109 pounds as well.

MayLee Edwards (So., Newton, Kan., Psychology) is eighth at 143 pounds, while #9 rankings belong to Mariah Webster (Fr., Mingo, Iowa, Elementary Education) and Payge Fuller (Fr., Plattsburg, Mo.) at 130 and 155 pounds, respectively.

Kaylah Johnson (Fr., Houston, Texas, Biology) concludes William Penn’s list in 10th at 155 pounds.
