Spring is just around the corner. Its time to climb out of winter hibernation and get out in the yard to work on your lawn. Below are a few tips to make your yard the envy of the neighborhood.
* Cleaning up your lawn is the first step before anything else. Raking and removing the dead leaves and grass is where you need to begin. This will remove dead debris from the lawn surface and the lower thatch layer as well.
* Aerating your lawn is an excellent way to help with spring green up. Aerating is the process of removing soil cores from the sub soil, which in turn opens up the soil from compaction. This allows more oxygen for the turfs root system which will help with green up.
* A good weed control and fertilization program for the year is the final step. The month of April is the time to apply a pre emergent control for annual grasses and weeds. Annual grasses are plants that grow from seed every spring. The chemical treatment helps to control and kill the seed before it germinates. Fertilizer helps your lawn with the nutrient needs it has that it cannot glean from the soil it is growing in. A healthier turf grass plant will be more resistant to disease problems. Aesthetically is will provide a greener appearance to the lawn as the plant uses the fertilizer.
These few tips will help you get your lawn off to a good start this spring and make you the envy of the neighborhood!
