Dorothy Oaks
Oskaloosa. Dorothy Oaks, 77, of Oskaloosa, and formerly of Denver, Colorado, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, Iowa. She was born on January 10, 1933, at Ovid, Colorado, the daughter of George Earl and Vera Alfarada Austin Hoschouer. On September 27, 1950, she was united in marriage to George Oaks at Ventura, California. Following their marriage Dorothy stayed home to care for her children and home. In 1972, she went to work for Western Electric in Broomfield, Colorado, and continued with the company when they were purchased by AT&T and she retired in 1990. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, and listening to country music.
Her family includes her husband, George Oaks of Oskaloosa; two sons and their wives: Terry and Carol Oaks and Larry and Lori Oaks, all of Oskaloosa; two daughters: Patricia Oaks and Brenda Ham, both of Denver, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and three sisters: Pauline (& Tommy) Daniels of Thorton, Colorado, Doris Hawkins of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Alice Benabedes of Englewood, Colorado.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Donna Dee London; and two brothers: Donald and Loren Hoschover.
Open visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa on Wednesday after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 6 – 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Additional services and burial will be later in the week in Denver, Colorado. Memorials may be made to the Dorothy Oaks Memorial Fund.
