Day one of the state meet had some ups and downs.

by Betsy Luck

Faith DeRonde struggled to find her rhythm in the discus, finishing 10th with a throw of 118-2. This wraps up an outstanding discus career for her. She will be back in the ring tomorrow for shot put.

Maleah Walker made the finals in both the 100 (12.95) and 200 (26.5) qualifying 7th in the prelims for both races. The finals will be held on Saturday.

The shuttle hurdle relay of Hayley VanArkel, Gracie DeRonde, Lydia Van Veldhuizen and Hannah Quang finished the year with a season best 1:11.52. The team came in seeded 22nd and finished 20th. This young group of three sophomores and one freshman gained some invaluable experiences in a race we hope to see them in again next year.

The team has a busy Friday with Faith in the shot put, Hannah Quang in the 100m hurdle prelims, 4×200 (Krier, Czerwinski, F DeRonde and Walker), Maleah Walker in the long jump, and Jordan Czerwinski in the 400m hurdles.
