Cross Country Squads Continue Fall Season at Doane Event

Crete, Neb.–Nick Reynolds (Sr., Riverton, Utah, Iowa Western CC) found himself in the top-20 again, guiding the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen cross country programs at the Dean White Invitational hosted by Doane Saturday.
On the men’s side, William Penn was fifth out of six teams with 125 points. Host Doane held off Northwestern for the men’s crown by a margin of 26-37.
Northwestern returned the favor on the women’s side, beating Doane by five points, 35-40. The Lady Statesmen did not field a team.
Individually, Doane’s Edwin Ronoh won the men’s 8K race in a time of 26:40.45, while Kelsey Christensen, also of Doane, took home the women’s 5K title in a time of 19:10.11.
Reynolds was 20th overall (out of 55 runners) with a time of 28:26.93, while Deane Wichelt (Fr., Durant, Durant HS) made his first appearance as the team’s second-best runner, taking 29th overall at 29:13.10.
Blake Washington (So., Knoxville, Knoxville HS) returned to the course after taking off a meet and was 31st at 29:20.19.
Nick Thomas (Fr., Salmon, Idaho, Salmon HS), in 41st (30:35.56), Cameron Pittman (So., Carl Junction, Mo., Carl Junction HS), in 47th (31:21.20), and Quintin Marshall (So., St. Louis, Mo., McCluer South Berkeley HS), in 51st (32:58.55), also posted times for the navy and gold.
Wichelt, Pittman, and Marshall all bettered their 8K times from a week ago.
Kyra English (So., Draper, Utah, Alta HS) remains the best option for the women, placing 26th (out of 55 runners) with a time of 21:40.26. Her time was four seconds faster than last weekend in Ames.
Morgan Avery (Sr., Minot, N.D., Iowa Western CC) was runner-up on the team, taking 38th at 23:54.02, also a stronger time than last week.
Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS), in 42nd (24:09.71) and Kaitlyn Graves (So., Bloomfield, Indian Hills CC), in 53rd (27:18.82), rounded out the Lady Statesmen scoring. Graves made her season debut Saturday.
Next: William Penn travels to Des Moines Friday to compete in the Grand View Invitational.
