Cross Country Returns to Action at Graceland
Lamoni–In their final tune-up before the league championships in two weeks, the William Penn harriers were back on the course Saturday competing at the Graceland Yellowjacket Classic.
The William Penn men placed sixth out of seven teams with 140 points, while host Graceland won the team crown with 41 points. The William Penn women did not field a team, while Nebraska-Omaha sprinted to the win with 40 points.
Yonas Mebrahtu of Graceland won the men’s 8K race in a time of 25:09, while Amanda Vorthmann of Nebraska-Omaha took home the women’s 5K title in a time of 18:36.
Nick Reynolds (Sr., Riverton, Utah, Iowa Western CC) led the Statesmen with a time of 28:18 to place 20th overall out of 63 competitors.
Blake Washington (So., Knoxville, Knoxville HS) was next in 34th place at 29:36, while Deane Wichelt (Fr., Durant, Durant HS) was 37th at 29:44.
Nick Thomas (Fr., Salmon, Salmon HS) also snuck under the 30-minute barrier, placing 38th at 29:55. Cameron Pittman (So., Carl Junction, Mo., Carl Junction HS) concluded his team’s scoring in 48th at 30:49.
Kyra English (So., Draper, Utah, Alta HS) highlighted the navy and gold on the women’s side, taking 32nd (out of 88 runners) at 21:32.
Morgan Avery (Sr., Minot, N.D., Iowa Western CC), in 65th (23:55), and Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS) in 67th (24:19) finished within seconds of each other, while Rachel Skinner (So., Felicity, Ohio, Ripley HS) was 80th in a time of 28:31.
Next: William Penn is off one week before traveling to Dubuque for the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships on November 5.
