Council Approves New Subdivision Plat

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Council met in regular session on Monday, August 19th at 6 pm inside the council chambers of Oskaloosa City Hall.

The first item on the regular agenda was to consider a resolution accepting the bid and conveyance of a city-owned property that is located at 423 North 3rd Street to Alan Van Waardhuizen for $3,000.

The minimum bid for the property as set by the city of Oskaloosa was $1,250, and two bids were received.

Wade Francis bid $1,300 with plans to demolish the existing home and build a new single-family home.

Van Waardhuizen’s bid of $3,000 came with plans to also demolish the existing home and to build a new single-family home or duplex on the lot.

No floor plans were included with either bid. Van Waardhuizen estimates the new structure will have a value of upwards of $250,000.00.

Van Waardhuizen now has 90 days to demolish the home, and 180 days to obtain the building permit. The new structure must be completed within a year. If those steps are not taken, the property will revert back to the city of Oskaloosa.

The Council also considered a revised preliminary plat and then a final plat for the Pear Tree Estates Subdivision. Pear Tree Estates is located where the former Nazarene church was located before it was destroyed by fire. (Northeast corner of South 11th Street and Third Avenue West.)

The total area of the subdivision is approximately 2.15 acres and will consist of six residential lots.

The Council approved an ordinance change for building permits. That change moves the square footage up from 80 square feet to 120 square feet before a building permit is necessary.

The Council approved the ordinance change unanimously.

The next scheduled meeting for the Oskaloosa City Council is September 2nd, 2019 at 6 pm inside the council chambers at Oskaloosa City Hall.
