Central College creates new positions

Central College

PELLA, Iowa — President Mark Putnam has announced two leadership changes at Central College. Susan Canfield has accepted the position of director of conferences and events, and Mona Roozeboom will become associate athletics director for business affairs.

Canfield has worked in the development office for 13 years as director of events/grant writing/communications coordinator. In her new position, Canfield will coordinate all campus events and develop a five-year marketing plan for expanding Central’s involvement in academic conferences.

“This is a newly created position that reflects the growing importance of our conference and event activities at Central College and the many benefits we derive from a broad use of our facilities,” said Putnam.

Canfield will be part of the leadership group in the Division of Finance and Administration and will serve as a member of Putnam’s Leadership Conference. She will be assisted in her new role by Lowell Olivier-Shaw and Sue Visser.

“Susan brings a wealth of knowledge about the world of conferences and events and a wide range of experiences in planning and overseeing conferences and events prior to coming to Central College,” said Putnam.

Roozeboom has worked at Central College for 27 years, most recently as director of human resources. “We are deeply indebted to Mona for her deep and abiding commitment to Central College and her willingness to tackle many great opportunities and challenges over the years,” Putnam said.

As associate athletics director for business affairs, Roozeboom will manage the growing summer camp programs that showcase the college to prospective students and bring in additional revenue. She will also work with the athletics director, Al Dorenkamp, to facilitate fiscal operations across the department.

“Central College continues to evolve as an organization in ways that reflect the changing landscape of higher education in general and the particular needs of our campus,” said Putnam.
