PELLA — Joe Kotz and Logan Mulford, both 2017 Central College graduates, will return to the track and field program as assistant coaches this spring.

Kotz, a three-time varsity letterwinner and the Dutch Spirit Award winner as a senior, will work the horizontal jumps. At the 2017 Iowa Conference Indoor Championships, Kotz had a career-best triple jump and finished ninth, just one position off of placing. He earned his degree from Central in Communication Studies.

“Joe is a very organized individual that will bring a lot to our horizontal jumps,” coach Joe Dunham said. “He’s passionate about this team and he loves Central College. He’s excited to work with the student-athletes and he’s going to be a great addition to the staff.”

Mulford finished his decorated high jumping career at Central with his fourth All-American honor at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He placed runner up twice at the NCAA Indoor Championships and once at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Mulford also won four Iowa Conference championships and was the league performer of the week four times.

“Logan had a great career here as a student-athlete,” Dunham said. “He’s going to bring a different kind of energy to our coaching staff. He’s got great insights on the high jump and will be a great help.”

Both Kotz and Mulford will also work in Central’s admissions office.
