Central’s Paulson, Grieger win league honors again
PELLA—For this second time this fall, Central College seniors Sarah Paulson (Ottumwa) and Chelsea Grieger (Pella) are the Iowa Conference players of the week.
Paulson is the women’s golf honoree and Grieger is the volleyball libero/defensive specialist of the week. Both players were also cited Sept. 6.
Paulson claimed medalist honors as the Dutch captured their first tournament title of the season at the five-team Central Fall Invitational, held at the par-72 Bos Landen Golf Club. Paulson cruised to a 5-shot victory in the 33-player field with an 83-77—160. Central shot 347-335—682, 11 strokes ahead of second-place Grinnell College.
Paulson has been tabbed player of the week 10 times and is a two-time league player of the year. She received all-America recognition in 2010, tying for sixth place at the NCAA Division III championship.
Grieger posted 100 digs in five matches as the Dutch went 4-1 last week. She also had four ace serves. Grieger tied her season-best against Benedictine (Ill.), collecting 27 digs in a 3-0 sweep. She also recorded 20-plus marks in a 3-1 conference road win over Dubuque and a 3-2 victory over Whittier (Calif.)
Grieger is a two-time all-conference pick, receiving first-team distinction in 2010. She has been named to four all-tournament teams and has received player of the week honors five times.
