This ghost sign recently uncovered during the rennovation of the “Iowa Building” shows the connection Oskaloosa had to the now lost town of Buxton

The next quarterly membership meeting of the Mahaska County Historical Society will is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. inside Bradbury Hall at the Nelson Pioneer Farm campus. A potluck dinner will precede the membership meeting and program.

Local Historian Connie Van Polen will discuss the diversity of the mining town of Buxton, Iowa. Not only was Buxton a racially integrated town, but with its many immigrants it also had a rich ethnic diversity that went beyond black and white.

The meeting is open to the public. Those coming are asked to bring a dish to share and their own tableware. For more information, call the Nelson Pioneer Farm at 641-672-2989.
