Lady Statesmen Return to Postseason

Oskaloosa–The Penn women’s bowling program will look to accomplish something it failed to do last year when it competes at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals.

The Lady Statesmen, ranked #23 on the collegebowling.com website, will travel to Euless, Texas for the 13-team tournament that runs from March 12-13 at AMF Euless Lanes.  The tournament is a Baker format consisting of 64 total games–32 each day.

Penn earns its second sectionals trip in a row after ending its 2009-2010 season with a very respectable seventh-place finish (out of 15 teams).

The other sectionals will be held at Allentown, Pa., Chattanooga, Tenn., and Peoria, Ill.  #2 McKendree (Ill.) and #4 Robert Morris (Ill.) are remaining in their state by traveling to Peoria, while #3 Lindenwood (Mo.) will go east to Chattanooga.  Fifth-ranked Central Florida headlines the Allentown sectional.

#1 Wichita State (Kan.) tops the Euless tourney, while #6 Maryland-Eastern Shore and #9 Newman (Kan.) also represent the top ten.

The remainder of the field includes: #13 West Texas A&M, #18 Robert Morris-Peoria, #28 Fresno State (Calif.), #36 Texas A&M, #45 Louisiana State, #46 Bethel (Tenn.), #51 Our Lady of the Lake, #62 California-Davis, and #69 Baker (Kan.).

The Lady Statesmen will be paced by all-Midwest Collegiate Conference players Breanne Underwood (Sr., Treynor, Treynor HS) and Samantha Powell (So., Herriman, Utah, Bingham HS).

Sectional assignments are based on Team Ranking System points.  Fields are determined by taking geographic distance, economics, and field size into consideration.

The top four teams from each of the four sectionals advance to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will be held April 20-23 at AMF Peach Lanes in Columbus, Ga.

In addition, the four sites will also host the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Sectionals on March 11 with individuals bowling six games.  The top 16 women and the top 24 men–top four from each sectional plus eight additional men based on size of field at each location–advance to the national singles championship on May 23-24 in Euless.
