Betty Rhoads

Oskaloosa. Betty Mae Rhoads, 97, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born Monday, September 8, 1913, in Mahaska County, the daughter of J. Walter and Jennie Mae Pettichord Richmond. On September 21, 1952, she was united in marriage to Raymond Rhoads in Knoxville, and he died December 7, 1996. She worked at Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa for 34 years, doing various jobs including many years in the X-ray department where she worked until her retirement in 1987.

Her family includes her daughter: Charlotte Cambra of New Castle, Indiana; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Richard Bartlow; a daughter: Beatrice DeCou; a brother: Richard Richmond; eight sisters: Maxine Hightower, Madge Whalen, Virginia Saunders, Peggy McCrea, Edith Mackey, Helen Richmond, Mary Umbarger and Blanche Burnham.

Funeral services for Betty Rhoads will be held Friday, June 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Reverend Andrea Brownlee officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Friday after 9 a.m. at Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present from 9 – 11 a.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s disease and Related Disorders Association.
