Betty Lou McMullen Stewart, age 76, of Oskaloosa, passed away at her home on Thursday, June 4, 2020. She was born on March 12, 1944 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Homer D. and Bernice (Moore) McMullen.
Betty attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1962.
Betty had a strong work ethic. She started her career at the Oskaloosa Food Products, eventually working her way up as a lab technician. She retired in 2015 after 30 years. While being employed at the Food Products facility, she also worked as a cook for different nursing facilities in Oskaloosa for 29 years.
Betty enjoyed reading, planting flowers around her home, crossword puzzles and watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. Betty was a caring mother and grandmother. She delighted in hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her 3 children: William Daniel (& Jennifer) Stewart of Urbandale, Jason Richard (& Karla) Stewart of New Sharon and Ryan Lee (& Ana Leon) Stewart of Ottumwa; her grandchildren: Benjamin Daniel Stewart, Ethan Patrick Stewart, Alan William Wayne Bowen, Sarah Elizabeth Ann (& Adelmo IV) Marchiori and Brylee Cole Stewart; her great granddaughter, Sienna Ann Marchiori; her siblings: Bobby McMullen of Alaska, Wayne McMullen of Oskaloosa, Phyllis Todd of Las Vegas, Gary McMullen of Oskaloosa and Terry McMullen of Eddyville. Betty is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Bernice McMullen; a nephew, Mike Todd; a brother-in-law, Gerald Todd; and her sister-in-laws, Joyce McMullen and Eleanor McMullen.
As was her wish, her body will be cremated.
A visitation with a rolling limit of 10 in the building at any given time will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2020 from 1:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa.
A private family burial will take place at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made in Betty’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals.
