OSKALOOSA, IA — Oskaloosa music students will soon have the opportunity to show off their skills with the Bay Street Brassworks touring musical ensemble. On Thursday, November 14th, Bay Street will work with 122 middle school band students during the school day, performing with them and teaching them about being professional musicians. The ensemble will also work with William Penn University music majors and a general education class.

Students will then have the opportunity to play with the Bay Street Brassworks on stage during their performance on the evening of November 14 at 7:30 p.m.

“This is just one of the ways we can highlight the talent here in Oskaloosa,” said Andy McGuire, Youth Director at the George Daily Auditorium. “It’s always great to have opportunities to work with professionals in their field, and it’s even better that students can do it for free.”

The George Daily Auditorium has brought in other educational residencies in the past, most recently during the 2013 youth theatre summer camp with a stage combat instructor and a musical theatre director. Other professional touring shows like Neil Simon’s Biloxi Blues and the Berenstain Bears have also done educational outreach within the school district.

“It’s an important part of what we do here. We’re definitely looking to keep doing it in the future,” said McGuire.

Bay Street Brassworks has performed hundreds of educational programs, demonstration concerts, master classes, and individual clinics to kindergartners through high school seniors. This award-winning brass quintet was founded in 1995 and performs a wide variety of music like classics from George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, John Phillip Sousa, and more.

Tickets to the Bay Street Brassworks performance cost $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets, including group discounts, are available through the George Daily box office at (641) 672-0799 or online at www.georgedaily.org. This performance is sponsored by C.L. Barnhouse Company.
