Barbara Northcutt
Barbara Northcutt, 76 of New Sharon passed away October 19, 2010 at the Mahaska County Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, October 22, 2010 at the New Sharon United Methodist Church with Reverend John Battern Officiating. Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Thursday, October 21, 2010 with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the Stewart Cemetery in rural New Sharon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mahaska County Serenity Hospice House or the New Sharon United Methodist Church.
Barbara Juanita Northcutt, daughter of William and Mable (Turpin) Wilson was born on December 14, 1933 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School. Barb was united in marriage to Ronald Harris in 1956. To this union two daughters were born, Diana and Rhonda. They later divorced. On September 18, 1965, Barb married Clark Northcutt Jr. in New Sharon. Barb worked at Deans Café in Oskaloosa, Big Smiths Overall Factory in Oskaloosa and Montezuma Manufacturing. She was also a housewife and cleaned houses in Deep River. Barb volunteered at the Capri Theater popping popcorn every Sunday. She also volunteered at the New Sharon Senior Center, Closet Collection Consignment and Bidwell-Riverside Clothing in Des Moines. Barb wrote weekly columns for the Deep River Ripples, the Montezuma Republican, the Brooklyn Chronicle and most recently the New Sharon Sun. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, fishing, hunting and mushroom hunting. Barb was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women.
Her memory is honored by her two daughters, Diana (Claude) Thomas of Parrish, Alabama and Rhonda (Mike) Mott of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren, Ben (Ashley) Pierce of Deep River, Amber (Tim) Van Hamme of Victor, Adam Harris of Oskaloosa and Zach Harris of Oskaloosa; a brother, Jerry (Grace Kennedy) Wilson of Oskaloosa; two sisters, Mary Jane Amber of Harvey and Peggy (Don) Siegworth of Hot Springs, Arkansas and seven grandchildren.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clark Northcutt Jr. 2003; one sister, Bonnie Dabrowski and one granddaughter, Samantha Pierce.
