Authorities Say Fremont Fire Suspicious

Firefighters were treated on scene for heat related stresses by paramedics. Two firefighters get some rehab in the back of this Mahaska Health Partnership ambulance during Thursday’s fire.
On Thursday, July 20th, 2017, at approximately 4:15 pm the Cedar Township (Fremont) fire Department was dispatched to 556 West Main Street, Fremont, Iowa in reference to a garage fire. The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office responded to this fire call also.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that the garage was attached to the house at this address. Firefighters from Cedar Township, Oskaloosa, Hedrick, and Eddyville battled the fire for several hours. Although the garage was a complete loss, firefighters were able to salvage/save most of the house’s main structure. No estimate of the damage to the house and garage was given.
Firefighters and Sheriff’s Officials determined that the fire was suspicious in nature and contacted the Iowa State Fire Marshals’ Office for assistance with this investigation. The investigation into this fire is ongoing.
