Altieri Claims Bronze at Central Invite
Pella–Several individuals won numerous matches as the Statesmen wrestling team got back into action Saturday at the Central Under Armour Invitational.
William Penn placed 11th with 25.5 points, while the host Dutch won the team race with 139 points.
John Altieri (So., Warwick, R.I., Sociology) headlined the navy and gold efforts as he placed third at 125 pounds. The sophomore owned a 5-1 record with one fall.
The Statesmen were their best at 133 and 165 with three grapplers tallying at least one victory at both weights. Austinn Goin (So., Belton, Mo., Exercise Science) was 3-2 with two falls at 165, while 133-pounder Darquell Pierre (Fr., St. Petersburg, Fla., Sociology) also owned a 3-2 mark with one pinned foe.
Jordan Lockhart (Jr., Lawton, Okla., Communications) was one of four members of WPU’s squad to go 2-2; he had a pair of pins at 165 pounds. Fellow 165-pounder Jeremy Walters (Sr., University Park, Ill., Exercise Science) managed one fall, while 133-pounder Jeremy Andujar (Jr., Tampa, Fla., Biology) tallied one fall and one major decision. Matthew Cuthbert (So., Yucaipa, Calif., Sociology) also pinned one of his opponents at 285 pounds.
133-pounder Tommy Rios (So., Tucson, Ariz., Exercise Science) and 184-pounder Nick Wise (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz., Exercise Science) also both won once by fall, while 149-pounder Kionte Crocker (Jr., Brandon, Fla., Industrial Technology) claimed a major decision victory. Dennis Simmons (Fr., Tucson, Ariz., Sociology) had his hand raised once in victory as well.
Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa Tuesday to face Graceland in dual-meet action at 7 p.m. The event will also serve as Senior Night.
