City Council Appoints Drost To Fill Vacancy
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Council met in regular session on Monday evening,
The council approved appointing a new member after long-time city council member Tom Jimenez resigned because he was moving from his ward.
The council received applications from Shane Blanchard, Bob Drost, and Wyatt Russell.
Drost was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Jimenez, and his term will be up in December of 2019.
The council approved a resolution adopting the proposal for the Fiscal Year 2019 Property, Liability, Automobile, Equipment and Workers Compensation Insurance for a cost of $168,611.
Margaret Ratcliff with MidWestOne Insurance made the presentation to the council. She highlighted the cost savings the city was receiving, including $35,000 in property and causality coverage, and an additional $14,000 in savings on workers compensation.
City council-member Tom Walling commended the city workers from the bottom to the top for their team effort work in being safe at work. “Thank you.”
Also approved by the council during Monday’s meeting:
*A resolution authorizing the vacation and sale of the 120 foot by 16.5 foot section of the north-south alley adjacent to 1210 B Avenue West.
*A resolution authorizing the vacation and sale of the 49 foot by 16 foot section of the east-west alley adjacent to 1009 9th Avenue East.
*A resolution approving and authorizing execution of a Development Agreement by and between the City of Oskaloosa and Marje, L.C.
the Marje Addition is slated to have 30 single family housing units with 8 to 20 additional Housing Units in a multi-family structure (condos and/or townhomes).
Infrastructure Improvements are necessary to the development of the Housing Units, including streets, sidewalks, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water mains, and are to be completed by Developer and dedicated at no cost to the City, together with all related site improvements.
*A resolution to approve, and direct the Mayor to execute, an agreement with Garden and Associates, Ltd. for engineering services related to pavement improvements on B Avenue West and sanitary sewer extension to the proposed Apartment Complex at 1315 B Avenue West.
*A resolution authorizing advancement of costs for Urban Renewal Project and certification of expenses incurred by the city for payment under Iowa Code Section 403.19.
*A resolution approving revisions to the Rental Housing Inspection Program Administrative Policy.
*Passed an ordinance to amend Oskaloosa Municipal Code Chapter 15.60 – “Rental Housing Inspection” Sections 15.60.030, 15.60.040, and to add section 15.60.055 – Rental compliance certificates. (1st Reading)
The ordinance change will require at least one more reading before being adopted.
*Approved Pay Application No. 1 – Final in the amount of $33,500.00 and completion of work for installing new streetlight poles on South 1st Street and 2nd Avenue East.
The next meeting of the Oskaloosa City Council would be July 2, 2018, at 6:00 pm inside the city council chambers located at the Oskaloosa City Hall.
