Grand Opening Celebration for the Track at the Lacey Recreation Complex
To kick off the 2013 Oskaloosa Relays, William Penn University and Oskaloosa Community Schools will celebrate the grand opening of the new track at the Stadium at the Lacey Recreation Complex on Saturday, April 13 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:45 a.m. immediately preceding the Girls 3000, the first running event of the Oskaloosa Relays. The state-of-the-art stadium, which includes an artificial-turf field, natural grass field, and berm seating opened in the fall of 2011. The eight-lane, all-weather track and field-event areas were completed in June of 2012. The impressive facility was made possible by contributions from area residents and the William Penn community through the Community Campaign.
In July of 2012, the William Penn Athletic Booster Club hosted the First Annual Duck Plucker’s Ball for area sportsmen and women. Proceeds from the event were used to purchase track and field equipment for the stadium to be used by both the William Penn track and field program and the Oskaloosa Community School District athletic program.
Following the Oskaloosa Relays, William Penn will host the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC) Heptathlon and Decathlon Championships and the Statesmen Relays, which will be held simultaneously on April 19–20. On May 3–4, William Penn University will host the MCC Conference Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Having a fully-sanctioned track will allow the William Penn University Track and Field program to host conference meets and championships for the first time in school history. Each of these events will bring hundreds of competitors and spectators to the Oskaloosa area.
The community is encouraged to attend these upcoming events to see the completed track and cheer on our talented young men and women. “This is a top-notch facility that will help us attain our goal of being at the top of our conference for years to come,” said William Penn University Track and Field/Cross Country Head Coach Allen Friesen.
Please join representatives from William Penn University, the Oskaloosa School District, and the Oskaloosa community as we celebrate the opening of the track at the Stadium at the Lacey Recreation Complex this Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
