Oskaloosa, Iowa – William Penn University is pleased to announce that Brenda Krogh-Duree, RN, Ph.D. has been named the new Director of Nursing for the University’s RN-BSN degree program. Duree comes to William Penn with a strong background in nursing, education and academic administration.

Duree received her initial degree in nursing from Iowa Lakes Community College. After working clinically in a variety of specialties, she returned to school and received her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa while continuing to work as an RN. Later, she received her Master’s degree in Education at Iowa State University, a Master’s degree of Nursing from the University of Iowa and her Doctorate’s degree in Education with a Leadership Focus from Iowa State University.

Duree’s original passion was for nursing, but she later discovered a love for teaching as well, “I am excited about this position…educators are good role models and my experience as a former student and life-long learner helps to keep teaching in perspective.” After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in nursing, she began her teaching career at Southwestern Community College. She then went on to teach at Iowa Valley Community College and later became the Associate Dean. During this time she continued to practice nursing in the emergency area as much as her demanding schedule would allow. Her respectable career and extensive background are what brought her to William Penn University.

Duree has set multiple goals for the Nursing program at William Penn and herself. She would like to increase enrollment in the program and continue to meet the needs of registered nurses in Iowa seeking their Bachelor’s degree, all while keeping a visionary eye for the curriculum. Eventually, she would like to represent the William Penn RN-BSN program beyond the Oskaloosa campus by expanding the program to area community colleges. Duree also hopes to be a mentor for her students. Through her experiences as a lifelong learner and practicing nurse, she hopes to help her students reach their future goals. “I applaud these nurses for coming back; they are looking for more opportunities…a BSN will open up more job possibilities for them.”

The nursing program at William Penn University allows students to continue working as they attend class one day a week. Registered Nurses looking to further their career through a management or leadership position are able to apply their education and life experiences as they work toward a Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
