Large Crew Tabbed for Scholar-Athlete Awards
Oskaloosa–Nine William Penn men’s soccer players were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2025 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Jonathan Acosta (Fr., Wailuku, Hawaii, Sports Management) paces the crew with a 4.0 Grade Point Average entering this fall, while Mathis Thyli (So., Raufoss, Norway, Business Management) is right behind at 3.97.
Rob Stoop (So., Bosch en Duin, Netherlands, Exercise Science), at 3.89, and Bryan Petrie (Fr., Solon, Iowa, Applied Computer Science), at 3.88, are in the 3.80-3.89 range, while Sven Henneberg (So., Detmold, Germany, Sports Management) lands in the middle of the 3.70-3.79 range at 3.74.
John-Joe Mullane (Sr., Kent, England, Sports Management) follows at 3.68, while the trio of Raimu Shingo (So., Fukuoka, Japan, Business Management) (3.57), Lucas Ramirez-Sebastini (Business Management) (3.57), and George Denninghoff (So., Corona, Calif., Business Management) (3.50) also own GPAs high enough to qualify.
The award is the first for all nine individuals.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, have attended the nominating institution for one full year prior to nomination, and must appear on the sport’s eligibility paperwork.
