Oskaloosa–Maggie Yang (Jr., Chino, Calif., Biology) was much more than just ‘par for the course’ Saturday as her new school record earned her Midwest Collegiate Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week honors Monday.

Yang, now a five-time career award recipient, notched her first laurel of the season by shooting even-par 72 at the Concordia (Minn.) Invitational Saturday. The score was three strokes better than her old 18-hole program mark of 75 set two years ago as a freshman.

The 72 also earned Yang the individual medalist accolade, the sixth of her collegiate career. Her round consisted of four birdies against four bogeys, and she posted a one-under 35 on the front nine and a one-over 37 on the back. The junior, who putted just 28 times, hit only six of 14 fairways, but rebounded by reaching 11 of 18 greens in regulation.

Yang’s performance lifted her team to a runner-up finish, but more impressively also helped the navy and gold tie for the best round-to-par score in school history (+30).

The award is the first for WPU this year.
