Yang Wins Golfer of the Week Accolade

William Penn Women's Athletics

Oskaloosa–Maggie Yang (Fr., Chino, Calif., Diamond Bar HS) concluded an amazing fall schedule with her first collegiate title and for her efforts she earned Midwest Collegiate Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week laurels.

Yang shot an 80-77–157 to win medalist laurels at the Lindenwood Invitational last Thursday and Friday. Her play also helped William Penn to its second-straight tournament crown, defeating 2011 NAIA national qualifier Lindenwood at its own event.

The freshman, who entered the event with four top-ten finishes (two seconds), finally broke through by tying her own 36-hole school record and finishing one stroke off the 18-hole mark. She won the season finale by five strokes.

For the year, Yang owns an 80.4 scoring average over 12 rounds, highlighted by Friday’s score of 77. She recorded five rounds in the 70s during her first autumn as a Lady Statesmen linkster.

The award is the second for the program this fall.
