WPU Swept by IHCC in First-Ever Coed Clash
Oskaloosa–In an exciting and intriguing event, the Statesmen men’s and women’s wrestling teams came up short against Indian Hills CC in the first-ever Coed Clash.
In a competition that featured alternating male and female bouts on the same mat, the men (8-8) fell 37-15 to the Warriors (1-0), while the women (2-4, 0-3 Heart) lost 33-5 to IHCC (3-2). The women’s outing was a rematch of William Penn’s first-ever competition back on December 9 in which the navy and gold won 18-17 on criteria.
Joylynn Wegman (Fr., Keller, Texas, Psychology and Sociology) claimed the lone female victory, pinning Celeste Tellez at 143 pounds in 1:10.
The Warriors were victorious in the first four men’s matchups, pulling out to a 21-0 advantage. Makail Stanley (Fr., Orena, Ill., Biology) finally got WPU on the board by dropping Eli Loyd 13-8 at 157 pounds.
165-pounder Steven Skewes (Fr., Duchesne, Utah, Exercise Science) then made it two in a row by pinning Neal Larsen in 55 seconds, but Indian Hills CC took the next three face-offs to secure the victory.
285-pounder Maxwell Diaz (So., Miami, Fla., Sports Management) closed out the night with a forfeit win.
