WPU Hosts Heart Day of Caring

Oskaloosa–On Valentine’s Day, the William Penn Athletic Department spread extra love as it hosted its Second Annual Heart of America Athletic Conference Day of Caring.

A total of 75 Statesmen, representing all of WPU’s athletic teams, volunteered to spend the day with over 100 Special Olympics of Iowa athletes who came from the Oskaloosa, Pella, Sigourney, PCM, and Knoxville school districts.

With help from the Adaptive PE class taught by Jennifer Peterson, various games were organized in the Penn Activity Center.

“It was a truly special day to watch our William Penn student-athletes interact and have fun with the surrounding local students that represented Special Olympics of Iowa,” William Penn Association of Student-Athletes Advisor CJ Rettig said. “Our athletes enjoyed every moment of it and have expressed their interest in doing it again next year. I want to thank and show appreciation to all those who volunteered and helped organize this wonderful event!”
