Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s soccer team was just seconds from collecting a draw in its final non-conference game of the year, but instead walked off the pitch heartbroken after suffering a 1-0 double-overtime setback to Simpson Tuesday.

William Penn (5-9) was outshot 22-9 on a chilly, blustery fall evening. That was nearly a moot point, though, as the teams battled through the first 109 minutes of action without a goal. Unfortunately, with less than one minute to go until the game would be deemed a tie, the Storm (4-12) finally cashed in on one of their chances at the 109:55 mark with a ball headed in off a long cross.

Francis Lee (So., Fort Dodge, Iowa, Exercise Science) and Isabelle Lucking (Fr., River Falls, Wis., Elementary Education) paced the home team with two shots each, while Adriana Borjon (Jr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) notched eight saves.

The outcome was a reversal of fortunes for WPU, which defeated SC 2-1 on the road in overtime last season.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Atchison, Kan. Saturday to face #8 Benedictine in Heart of America Athletic Conference play at 5 p.m.
