William Penn University Athletics

Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s basketball team is on the threshold of breaking through, but just not yet as the NAIA released its fourth Division I top-25 poll Tuesday.

The Statesmen (13-8, 11-6 Heart), who knocked off then-#13 Central Methodist and whose only loss was to #10 Baker during the last rating period, improved five position to #27 with 39 points.

The Heart of America Athletic Conference continues to have five programs in the poll with Baker at #10, Benedictine at #12, Central Methodist at #14, and MidAmerica Nazarene falling into the receiving votes section at #26.

Undefeated Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) is still #1 with 250 points and nine first-place votes, while Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), Westmont (Calif.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), and Vanguard (Calif.) wrap up the top five.

William Penn hosts Avila Thursday in Heart action at 5:30 p.m.
