Women Qualify for Knockout Play at ISBPA/Kegel Tourney
Peoria, Ill.–The William Penn women’s bowling team performed well in qualifying, but could not maintain that momentum as it competed at the ISBPA/Kegel Collegiate Classic Saturday and Sunday.
William Penn placed fifth out of 21 teams in qualifying with 7,335 pins (six regular games and ten Baker games).
The squad then posted a 412 in the initial two-game knockout round, but the White Division in which it was in was too strong and the navy and gold were denied advancement to the semifinals. The squad was eighth overall. St. Ambrose held off Midland (Neb.) 342-336 in the championship match to claim the team trophy.
In individual qualifying, Tannya Roumimper of Wichita State (Kan.) paced the 130-person field with a six-game average of 221.2 (1,327 pins).
Brittany Johnson (Fr., Schuyler, Neb., Business Management) and Kelsey Johnson (Jr., Montgomery, Ill., Secondary Education) both finished in the top 20 to lead the Statesmen. Brittany was 14th with a 192.3 average (1,154 pins), while Kelsey was 17th at 190.7.
Kirstin Newberry (Sr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education) just missed joining her teammates in the top group (22nd) with a 186.5 clip. Stephanie Adams (Fr., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management), with a 173.8 average, and Montana Pence (Fr., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education), with a 165.7 clip, wrapped up William Penn’s scoring. Each of the five players started all six games.
Next: William Penn is off two weeks before traveling to Davenport and Moline, Ill. on November 9-10 to compete in the ISYL Leatherneck Classic.
