Women Break Two School Records, Claim One Event Title at Grinnell Invite

Grinnell–The William Penn women’s track and field team enjoyed a record-breaking day Saturday as it competed at the Grinnell Invitational.
WPU finished fourth out of seven teams with 99 points, while Graceland won the team crown with 188 points.
The Statesmen were paced by both a pair of record-breaking finishes as well as an event victory.
Kayla Music (Fr., Corpus Christi, Texas), who already owns the 60-meter dash record, added the 200-meter dash to her list of program marks as she was second with a new best time of 26.56 seconds. The freshman was also second in the 60 in 8.06 seconds and fifth in the long jump at 15-5.
The distance medley relay crew of Talaysia Douver (Fr., Lakewood, Calif.), Justis Jakes (Jr., Highland Kan.), Bree’Anna Lee (Jr., Broken Arrow, Okla., Biology), and Zena Cohuo (Fr., Carrollton, Texas, Exercise Science) also broke the school record with a runner-up time of 14:29.08.
Cuhuo placed sixth in the one-mile run as well at 6:06.18, while Douver was two spots behind her in eighth at 6:07.33.
Ashley Omoregie (Fr., Old Bridge, N.J.) was also highly notable Saturday with a gold in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:04.30. The freshman was sixth in the 200 as well (27.88).
Multiple high finishes were also produced by fellow sprinters Raven Williams (Fr., Las Vegas, Nev.), Alexzandrea Woudenberg (So., Ottumwa, Iowa), and Danisha Washington (So., Peoria, Ill.). Williams was second in the 400 (1:04.79) and seventh in the 200 (27.93), while Woudenberg was sixth in the 60 (8.36) and eighth in the 200 (28.54) and Washington was eighth in the 60 (8.39) and ninth in the 200 (28.58).
Katherine Hunter (Fr., Bloomfield, Iowa) earned a silver in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.80 seconds, while Asia Laudermilch (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Physical Education) gave WPU a total four scorers in the 60 by ending up third in 8.18 seconds.
Becky Cleppe (Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla., Physical Education) headlined the throwers in fourth place in the weight throw at 37-10.
“Today was filled by outstanding performances by both of our squads,” Head Coach Allen Friesen said. “Our Statesmen came to compete! I cannot remember the last time we had so many people finishing in the top five in so many events.”
Next Up: William Penn travels to Des Moines Tuesday to compete in the Grand View Field Meet.
