Willis J. Arendt, 89, of Hedrick died Monday, May 7, 2012 at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield. He was born Friday, December 22, 1922, at Hedrick the son of John and Louisa Korfhage Arendt. He graduated from Hedrick High School with the class of 1940. On November 27, 1941 he was united in marriage to Zora Ruth Miars at Lancaster, Missouri and she died February 4, 2007. Following graduation he went to work on the family farm and continued farming until his retirement in 1995. He also worked at Martinsburg Lumber for approximately 20 years. He loved puzzle books especially word searches. He was a very dedicated and loving husband and care giver to his wife for many years. Willis loved fishing, his dog Wheezer and his cats Pee Wee and Missy. He was a 50 year member of the Lions, a member of the Hedrick Band Boosters, Hedrick- Martinsburg United Methodist Church and held several offices within the church and taught Sunday school classes for several years. Willis is survived by his sons: Robert (& Sandy) Arendt of Ottumwa and Warren (& Gary Noble) Arendt of Hedrick; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 65 years: Zora Ruth Arendt; a daughter: Willa Mathews; his parents; a sister: Dorothy Kielkopf and a son-in-law: Hollis Hill. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 12, 2012 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Reverend Melvin Reth officiating. Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick. Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel from 6 – 8 P.M. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Hedrick- Martinsburg United Methodist Church or to Wapello County Hospice.
