William Penn University to host the 2012 NAIA Midwest Cheer and Dance Regional Competition
Oskaloosa, Iowa – William Penn University is proud to announce that it will be hosting the 2012 NAIA Midwest Cheer and Dance Regional Competition. On Saturday, February 11, campus will be invaded by eight dance teams and seven cheerleading squads from the Midwest.
The completion will be held in the main gym on the William Penn campus, with the cheerleaders performing first. Cheer squads competing this year include Doane, Grand View, Missouri Baptist, Briar Cliff, Waldorf, St. Ambrose, and Midland. The criteria for judging include crowd cheering, tumbling, partner stunts, pyramids, jumps, choreography, degree of difficulty, overall effect, and collegiate image.
Following the cheerleader’s performances will be the dance portion of the competition. Teams must incorporate 30 seconds of jazz, hip hop, and pom styles into their routines. Our very own William Penn University Dance Team will be competing, as well as other teams from Doane, St. Ambrose, Grand View, Midland, and Concordia. The dance team regularly performs at home basketball games, but they will debut their competitive routine on the day of Regionals.
“We are very excited and honored to have been selected to host the 2012 Invitational,” said William Penn University Head Cheerleading Coach, Jill Thompson. The public is invited to attend the Regional Competition and support the cheer squads and dance teams on February 11 with performances starting at 11:00 a.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. We look forward to having many talented performers on campus, and hope to see a crowd of students and members of the community there to cheer them on.
