William Penn Takes Ninth at ISBPA/Kegel Classic
Addison, Ill.–The Lady Statesmen bowling squad claimed another top-ten finish as it returned to action at the ISBPA/Kegel Collegiate Classic Saturday and Sunday.
William Penn placed ninth out of 23 teams with a tally of 7,141 pins (six regular games, ten Bakers). Wichita State (Kan.) led after the 16 games with 7, 946 pins, but Robert Morris (Ill.) brought home the title by defeating Robert Morris-Peoria in the knockout round with a two-game win of 398-359. The navy and gold just missed the knockout round as only the top eight teams advanced.
Laura Fonnegra of Lindenwood (Mo.) had the best six-game average of 214.3 (1,286 pins).
Kirstin Newberry (So., Holland, Mich., West Ottawa HS) highlighted the Lady Statesmen in eighth place (out of 222 bowlers) with a 196.7 clip (1,180 pins).
Samantha Powell (Jr., Herriman, Utah, Bingham HS) was next for the navy and gold, placing 13th at 189.7, while Breanne Underwood (Sr., Treynor, Treynor HS), with a high of 245, was also in the top 20 (17th) at 186.3.
Kelsey Johnson (Fr., Montgomery, Ill., Oswego East HS) posted a 170.0 average and Jessica Fuja (Fr., Roselle, Ill., Lake Park HS) owned a 165.7 mark to round out William Penn’s scoring.
Next: The Lady Statesmen have a weekend off before traveling to Madison, Wis. to compete in the Warhawk Open on November 5-6.
