WILLIAM PENN STUDENTS WIN AWARDS AT THE ICMA CONFERENCE
William Penn University digital communication students received first and second place awards for “Best Online Video” in the multimedia category at the Iowa College Media Association (ICMA) conference held in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, February 7.
Two videos were submitted to the student media contest in the category for “Best Online Video” and received both first and second place. Jack Borcherding, Hailey Brown, Lucas Burns, Presley Joss, and 2012 graduate Katy Hingtgen received recognition for two online newscasts they produced as part of a class in spring 2012. The newscasts, William Penn News Now (WPNN), were produced as part of a multimedia news production class called “Digital Storytelling in the 21st Century.” The course challenged students to create media specifically to be displayed online through a blog they created, “The Statesmen Status.” The winning entries can be viewed online at http://statesmenstatus.wordpress.com/2012/04/24/wpnn-42312 and http://statesmenstatus.wordpress.com/2012/05/08/wpnn-5712.
According to the ICMA website, the annual contest is designed to “promote journalism education and recognize excellence among Iowa’s media students through competition.” Eligible submissions consisted of student media from the previous year (October 2011 through October 2012).
