William Penn Falls Short Vs. MVC

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen women’s soccer team was unable to produce much offense on a blustery day at Drost Field, allowing an early goal as it fell 1-0 to Missouri Valley in Heart of America Athletic Conference action Saturday.

WPU (2-8, 1-7 Heart) was outshot 20-1, but the only shot that mattered came in the opening minute of the contest. The hosts committed a foul just outside the penalty area and Viking Natalia Ruiz placed her set-piece shot out of the reach of keeper Katja Bierman (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo., Digital Communication) for the eventual game winner.

Bierman had another exemplary effort between the pipes with nine saves. Unfortunately, her field teammates did not come up with as much success putting pressure on the Missouri Valley defense. Iris Navarro (So., Ontario, Calif., Biology) recorded WPU’s lone shot attempt.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Fayette, Mo. next Tuesday to face Central Methodist in Heart play at 3 p.m.
