William Penn Falls in Quarters at Sandhills Event
Lincoln, Neb.–The Statesmen women’s bowling team made it into bracket play, but came up short of the crown at the Hammer Sandhills Collegiate Classic hosted by Midland University Saturday and Sunday.
William Penn finished eighth out of 11 teams with 7,811 pins in six regular games and four sets of Baker competition. Wichita State (Kan.) took the qualifying title and top seed for bracket play with 9,109 pins. Kristie Lopez of WSU was the top individual with an average of 213.7.
The two programs met up in the quarterfinals, but Wichita State advanced with a 2-1 score. #7 seed St. Ambrose eventually knocked off WSU in the finals 3-1.
Stephanie Adams (Jr., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management) headlined the navy and gold in ninth place with an average of 193.7 (high of 222). Montana Pence (Sr., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education) also started all six games, posting a 160.0 clip.
MacKenzie Boyd (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Human Services/Sociology) had a 167.2 average in five starts, while Audra Farley (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Education), with a 178.8 mark, and Amber Ovel (Fr., Waterloo, Iowa), with a 161.5 average, rolled in four games.
Briell Newberry (So., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education) (135.0, three games) and Cheyanne Starr (Fr., Ottumwa, Iowa) (152.0, two games) also competed for WPU.
