Foster Tops WPU at Individual Sectionals

Fort Worth, Texas–In their final individual competition of the year, the Statesmen’s men’s bowlers rolled at the xBowling Intercollegiate Singles Sectionals Friday.

Athletes competed in a six-game series to determine qualifiers for the national event. Zachary Rhoades of Wichita State (Kan.) led a group of 129 bowlers with a 242.0 average (1,452 pins).

Teammates Francois Lavole and Devin Bidwell will join him at nationals, as will Perry Crowell IV and Jared Erickson of Midland (Neb.). A total of 24 men from the four sectional tourneys qualified for nationals on Friday.

Cameron Foster (Sr., West Jordan, Utah, Business Management) narrowly missed in his final collegiate singles’ event, placing ninth with 1,244 pins (207.3 avg.), 64 pins from fifth place.

Piet Schaeffer (Sr., Livingston, Scotland, General Mathematics), with a 201.3 clip (1,208 pins), and
Connor Frederick (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, History/Government), with a 200.2 mark (1,201 pins), also posted 200-plus averages.

A total of 12 navy and gold athletes were on the lanes with Michael Applegate (So., Council Bluffs, Iowa, Undecided) having a 190.5 average, while Brandon Barboza (Jr., Brick, N.J., Sociology) was only one pin behind him with a 190.3 tally.

Conan Mackey (Jr., Bray, Ireland, Public Accounting) was next at 189.3, while Lucas Perdieu (Fr., DeWitt, Iowa, Public Accounting) had a 185.8 average and Travis Scott (So., West Saint Paul, Minn., Physical Education) was at 185.5.

Jacques Kaune (So., Anchorage, Alaska, Business Management), at 181.5, Drew Balta (Sr., Walford, Iowa, Education), at 180.5, Cody Adair (Fr., Salt Lake City, Utah, Undecided), at 161.0, and Ryan Howard (Fr., King, N.C., Music), at 154.5, also tried to advance nationally.

Five individuals also competed at the Addison, Ill. sectional with Eric Smith (Sr., Glenwood, Iowa, Industrial Technology) leading the way at 182.5. Kyle Reese (Fr., Chicago, Ill., Human Services) was next at 181.8, while Kyle Clark (Sr., Aurora, Ill., Physical Education) had a 179.5 clip. Cory Rissman (So., Yorkville, Ill., Industrial Technology), at 156.8, and Stian Hoff (Fr., Orkanger, Norway, Accounting), at 147.2, also bowled Friday.

Adams Places in Top 20 at Sectionals

Fort Worth, Texas–Stephanie Adams (Fr., Souris, Manitoba, Business Management) guided the William Penn women’s bowling team at the xBowling Intercollegiate Singles Sectionals Friday.

Athletes competed in a six-game series to determine qualifiers for the national event. Wichita State (Kan.) dominated the 81-person qualifying field as Alexis Ijams led with a 227.7 average (1,366 pins).

Teammates Kelsey Muther, Heather Melvin, and Tannya Roumimper also qualified. A total of 16 women from the four sectional tourneys qualified for nationals.

Adams was the best navy and gold roller by placing 19th at 197.7 (1,186 pins).

Kaelee Fountain (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Psychology & Sociology) and Blair Farris (So., Washington, Iowa, Elementary Education) were each at 179.0, while Kirstin Newberry (Sr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education) was just a bit back of them with a 173.0 mark.

Niona Bruce (Fr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sociology & Psychology), at 164.5, Montana Pence (Fr., Stronghurst, Ill., Elementary Education), at 160.7, MacKenzie Boyd (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education), at 158.3, and Emily Braga (So., Newton, Iowa, Communications), at 140.0, were also on the lanes Friday.
