Pritchett Wins First Accolade of Year

Oskaloosa–Janay Pritchett (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Biology & Sociology) had another strong week and was honored for her efforts as she collected Midwest Collegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors Monday.

Now a two-time career honoree, Pritchett picked up her first award of the season by averaging 22.5 points and 3.5 rebounds as William Penn (2-3) went 1-1 at the Presentation Classic.

The senior managed a career-high 27 points against Mount Marty (S.D.) and then tacked on 18 more versus Presentation. She shot 50.0% from the field (50.0% 3-PT) and was also 90.9% at the free-throw line. Pritchett finished with five steals and two assists as well.

For the year, Pritchett is averaging a team-best 18.0 points per game in addition to 2.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.4 steals. She is hitting 45.1% of her field goals (37.5% 3-PT) and is 87.0% from the charity stripe. The senior has topped WPU in scoring in each of its first five contests.

It is the program’s first weekly laurel of the year.

WPU Enters Season Finale Still in Top 25

Oskaloosa–The Statesmen football team can salvage a high finish nationally with a win Saturday as the NAIA released its ninth top-25 poll Monday.

William Penn (6-4, 2-2 MWL), which fell five rungs to #21 (69 points), concludes 2014 with a Midwest League contest against Trinity International Saturday at noon.

There was little movement in the first five with Morningside still a unanimous #1 with 340 points and all 15 first-place votes. Carroll (Mont.) and Grand View follow, while a loss by previous #4 Faulkner (Ala.) has allowed Southern Oregon and Georgetown (Ky.) to round out the top five.

A testament to how tough the Statesmen’s campaign has been, WPU is the only four-loss team in the top 25. William Penn’s losses have come to NCAA FCS South Dakota, #3 Grand View, #6 Saint Xavier, and #9 Marian (Ind.).
