Benson’s TD Leads to POW Award

Oskaloosa–Jeremiah Benson (Fr., Kansas City, Mo., Physical Education) only touched the ball once in the return game last Saturday, but that lone return was impressive enough for him to earn Heart of America Athletic Conference Football Special Teams Player of the Week laurels Monday.

Benson collected his first-ever honor after returning a kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter against then-#5 Baker. The freshman wide receiver also hauled in a 13-yard reception in the contest.

The award is the first for William Penn.

Miller Notches First Weekly Defender Award

Oskaloosa–Ashley Miller (So., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) was not just an all-tournament pick last weekend, but her efforts also netted her Heart of America Athletic Conference Volleyball Defender of the Week honors Monday.

Miller won her first collegiate award as she helped William Penn to a 2-2 record at the Saint Mary-Grace Tournament. The sophomore tallied 86 digs over 14 sets for an average of 6.14 per set. She also managed 13 assists and two aces. Miller had a weekend-best 24 digs twice.

For the year, the libero has 258 digs (5.73 per set) in addition to 34 assists, 12 aces, and one kill.

The award is the first for William Penn.

Golfer of the Week Accolade to Saito

Oskaloosa–A title was not the only thing won by Jodi Saito (Sr., Mililani, Hawaii, Education) as she was also named Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week Monday.

Saito won the first weekly award of her career by tallying two top-five finishes last week. The senior opened up by placing fifth with an 80 at the Pink Classic Tuesday, and then capped it with a title at the Buena Vista Invitational at 157 (78-79). She won a three-person playoff for her first career crown.

For the year, Saito owns a 78.5 stroke average over four rounds (low of 77). The award is the second for William Penn this year.
