Whitehead Notches MCC Recognition
Oskaloosa–Jennifer Whitehead (So., Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa HS) is starting to warm up and that should pose big problems for foes of the navy and gold as she was named Midwest Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week today.
Now a three-time career honoree (twice in 2011), Whitehead was 1-1 last week as William Penn moved to 12-10 on the year.
The sophomore began her week Wednesday by not allowing an earned run (one run total) on three hits against Bellevue (Neb.). She struck out three and walked a pair.
The southpaw had a tough first frame against Baker (Kan.) on Saturday, giving up three runs, but bounced back to not permit another base knock in the 3-0 setback. She retired 14 consecutive batters at one point.
For the year, Whitehead is 4-6 with a 1.83 Earned Run Average. In 65 innings of work, she has 36 strikeouts against 18 walks, and opponents are hitting just .243 against her.
The award is the third of the year for the Lady Statesmen.
