Water Board Meeting For May 14
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Water Board met in regular session on Monday, May 14, 2018. Absent from the meeting was Oskaloosa Water General Manager Chad Coon. Coon was spending time with an ill family member.
The board approved the invoices and financial statements for the month and reviewed where the department was in regards to the fiscal year, which ends June 30.
At this point, the department is under on metered sales, but also under on projected expenses.
The board approved the invoices for $405,527.14 for the month.
Discussion of wastewater operations and the general manager’s update were both handled by a written report from Coon.
The board briefly discussed the ongoing construction to improve the wastewater collection system for Oskaloosa. 500 property owners are being impacted during one segment of the wastewater improvement program, said Oskaloosa City Manager Michael Schrock. There are a total of four active projects underway at this time. Those projects under construction will soon include D Avenue and Lacey projects as well, with “more to come after these two phases are done.”
The third phase of the sanitary sewer project will be open for bidding next winter. With the completion of those, it potentially signals the end of the inflow and infiltration improvements the city has been mandated to address by the Iowa DNR.
The results of the inflow and infiltration testing will then help dictate the size of the wastewater treatment plant construction that will take place in the near future. The cost for that wastewater treatment plant will be approximately 30 million dollars.
“The plant has to be built to meet operational permits,” Schrock explained.
Michael Vore informed the other members of the Board of Trustees that this would be his last meeting.
